Behavioral Research and Adaptive Networks
Bridging Minds, Behavior, and Society through Network Science

The BRAN Lab, led by Dr. Andreia Sofia Teixeira at the Network Science Institute, Northeastern University London, explores how behavior and mental health emerge from the interplay between brain dynamics, individual experience, and social environments. Drawing on network science, complex systems, and computational psychiatry, the lab develops multiscale models to study adaptive behavior across neural and social levels. Current theoretical work focuses on multimodal representations of human behavior and health, and on the dynamic evolution of affective and temporal networks. As society becomes increasingly shaped by AI, the lab also investigates how people engage with AI systems for mental and public health support, examining the risks, benefits, and safeguards of these emerging human–AI ecosystems. We combine expertise across neuroscience, AI, computational social sciences, and public health to address questions that are both methodologically rigorous and socially meaningful.
